Mountain Fruška gora, proclaimed a national park in 1960, owing to its rich vegetation and significant number of animal species using it as habitat, as well as rich cultural, historical and archeological heritage.

Due to unique and numerous fossil remains of flora and fauna, Fruška gora is also called the "mirror of geological past".

Research have shown that this mountain represents a treasury of records of life on the planet. Based on this, flow of natural changes in this area during the last 500 million years has been reconstructed...

Surface of the national park entails 27.762 ha, with more than 1.500 species of plants, with the most represented ones trees sessile oak, beech and linden.

Pastures, arable land, vineyards and orchards, decorate the slopes and lower parts, with higher parts over 300 meters of altitude, are covered with dense deciduous forests.

Animal world is very rich and diverse, thus, this mountain is populated with 23 species of amphibians and reptiles, 60 species of mammals, approximately 220 species of birds, many of which are protected species.

Since the beginning of Middle Ages, a number of nations left tracks of their civilizations. Many monuments of sacral, as well as military and civil architecture has been preserved and they are located in the territory of settlements and outside such territory, on the enture area of Fruška Gora.

Fruška Gora is rich in lakes. All 17 lakes are of artificial accumulation, created by damming springs or on locations of deserted surface mines filled with water.

The most popular lakes of Fruška Gora are Bešenovac, Bruje, Ledinac, Moharač, Međeš, Pavlovac lake and Sot.

Also, this mountain includes many creeks, springs, river networks and ponds.

What to visit

One of the most popular sites of this location is the tower of Vrdnik, almost 20 meters high. Due to its historical significance, Tower of Vrdnik is one of the symbols of Fruška Gora and Vrdnik. At the location of today's tower there once was a town Vrdnik, at only couple of hundreds of meters below sea level. The town, at that time, represented an ideal hiding place and safe location for protection from enemies.

Today, what it left from the old town is the Donžon tower, with a low wall and ruins.

Monastery Vrdnik is also a station no visitor should miss.

Also known as Mala Ravanica, it was built in 13th century and it represents an extremely valuable cultural monument and one of the most capital monasteries in Fruška Gora.

Monastery keeps the holy relics of Saint Prince Lazar, Saint Great Martyr Anastasia and part of holy relics of Saint Theodore Tiron.

Also, visitors of Vrdnik usually visit the following sites: Vrdnik steps, Zjalin spring, Babin guz spring, Laza's whirlpool, Ivan Stambolić memorial, etc.
